What AAFCO certification means for your dog

The Association of American Feed Control Officials (AAFCO) sets the nutritional standards that every responsible pet food in the world is benchmarked against. AAFCO certification means a recipe has been tested or formulated to meet specific minimums for protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals. There are two AAFCO categories:

  • Adult Maintenance: meets nutritional needs of adult dogs only.
  • All Life Stages: meets the needs of puppies, pregnant or nursing dogs, adult dogs, and senior dogs. This is the higher bar.

Every Bon Pet recipe is formulated to AAFCO All Life Stages standards. One recipe, every life stage. No need to switch foods as your dog grows.

Why AAFCO All Life Stages matters in Singapore

Singapore has no local equivalent of AAFCO. AVS licenses kitchens for hygiene and safety, but does not test nutritional completeness. That means most fresh pet food in Singapore is unverified for nutrient adequacy. Some brands say "balanced" without showing what that means.

The Bon Pet was formulated by an in-house PhD pet nutritionist to meet AAFCO All Life Stages, then independently reviewed. The full formula breakdown for every recipe is on our public Google Sheet. You can audit every nutrient against AAFCO minimums yourself.

How The Bon Pet meets AAFCO standards

  • 🔬 PhD-formulated. Recipes designed by an in-house pet nutritionist with a doctorate in pet nutrition.
  • 📋 AAFCO All Life Stages compliant. Every recipe meets minimums for protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals across all life stages.
  • 🔓 Publicly auditable. Every ingredient, ratio, and supplement dose is on a public Google Sheet. No hidden blends.
  • 🍖 Sous vide cooked. 80°C cooking preserves heat-sensitive nutrients (taurine, B vitamins) that kibble extrusion at 200°C destroys.
  • 🇸🇬 AVS-licensed kitchen. Pioneer Crescent, Singapore. Hygiene and safety inspected.

Frequently asked questions about AAFCO dog food

What is AAFCO certification?

AAFCO (Association of American Feed Control Officials) sets nutritional standards for pet food. AAFCO certification means a food meets minimums for protein, fat, vitamins, and minerals. The two main categories are "Adult Maintenance" and the higher-bar "All Life Stages".

Is The Bon Pet AAFCO All Life Stages certified?

Yes. Every Bon Pet recipe meets AAFCO All Life Stages standards, suitable for puppies, adult dogs, pregnant or nursing dogs, and seniors. Our PhD pet nutritionist formulates every recipe against AAFCO minimums.

Where can I buy AAFCO approved dog food in Singapore?

The Bon Pet is the only fresh-cooked Singapore pet food brand that publishes its full formulas openly and meets AAFCO All Life Stages. Order at thebonpet.com with cold-chain delivery island-wide.

Is AAFCO certification recognised in Singapore?

Singapore does not have its own equivalent body to AAFCO. AVS regulates kitchen hygiene and licensing, not nutritional adequacy. AAFCO is the global gold standard most reputable pet food brands target, including in Singapore.

Why does The Bon Pet publish full recipes if it is AAFCO certified?

Because we believe every pet parent should be able to verify what they are feeding. AAFCO certification is the floor. Public formulas let you audit every nutrient yourself, against AAFCO minimums or any other standard you trust. See the formula sheet.

Does sous vide cooking preserve AAFCO-required nutrients?

Yes. Sous vide at 80°C is gentle enough to preserve heat-sensitive nutrients like taurine, B vitamins, and amino acids that high-temperature kibble extrusion (200°C+) tends to degrade. Our recipes are formulated post-cooking to ensure AAFCO minimums are met in the final product.
